CD Weedout - Space Rock / Jam Band / Festival Psych

If there's a genre that I loaded up on for too much and too long, it's that of the psychedelic jam. Whether you call it space rock (usually because of the synthesizers), jam band, or festival psych (Ozric Tentacles et al), I just continued to buy blindly, looking for that next rush the genre can often bring. And oftentimes it does, and I'm keeping those. But not always. And this style in particular leads to "too much of the same thing". This is one of those genres where a band can remain very effective for 1 or 2 albums, then their style already gets long in the tooth. There will be a lot more coming from here, that's for sure.

Tangle Edge - Serpentary Quarters. 2006 Mellow. I've sold all the Tangle Edge albums I owned except for the first 3 LPs. They almost define the mood I get with these type of albums. I loved this one at first too. There is a trance like quality on the 33 minute 'Transcendental Virtue' suite that is tempting to hang onto. But enough is enough.

Loch Ness - Drumnadrochit. 1999 Musea. You can throw Loch Ness from Mexico in the same pot with Tangle Edge. Same story, the first 2 LPs will stick around for awhile, but they continued with an all-too-familiar sound that added nothing new.

Masfel - Katasztrofamamor. 1998 Bahia. Korai Orom were another band that excited me back in the day, and Hungary had a few groups operating in these genres. Including the decidedly edgier Masfel. I owned a few by them at one point. They're all gone now.

Masfel - Angyaltojas. 2000 Bahia. As above

Masfel - Viperagarzon. 1996 Bahia. More above.

Korai Orom - '93-'96. 2000 Trottel. And here they are. The album known as 1997 is one of my all-time favorites in this space, but I'm not sure how many others will make the cut. Probably the first 2 will survive, and hopefully a couple of others as I revisit them. 2000 is already gone as well (from an earlier purge).

Djam Karet - Ascension. 2001 HC. Another group I have way too much of. I have my favorites from them. Like with Tangle Edge and Loch Ness, their earlier albums resonate more from a time and place perspective. I can see a scenario where no post 2000 albums will survive the cut. We'll see. Hoping a few will relight a fire.

Alison Faith Levy & Mushroom - Yesterday, I Saw You Kissing Tiny Flowers. 2007 4 Zero. And yet another California band with too many albums of the same. To their credit, Mushroom were different than their peers and oftentimes added a strong jazz element to their sound. I think most of their albums will survive, though I did let go of Leni Riefenstahl a few years ago as well.

Ozric Tentacles - Waterfall Cities. 1999 Phoenix Rising. The band that defines this list. I've already let go of a few albums by them, and there will be more. On the other hand, they also have some albums I truly treasure - rated at the very top. So if you ask me if I like Ozric Tentacles, I would say they are one of the greatest bands to have come around these last 40 years. And they didn't release a single bad album.  A remarkable run. Just too much - stop me if you've heard this before - of the same.

Cauldron - The Sanctuary Suite

Secret Saucer - Tri-Angle Waves.

Electric Orange - Netto.
