Krokus - Metal Rendez-Vous. 1980 Switzerland
Another album that goes way back to my music development. By 1980 I was starting to explore new sounds, and this album looked intriguing. I didn't have a steady job in 1980 (I was 15, so no driver's license yet), so buying new records like this were truly expensive for me. I didn't like it much on first impact, but since I had time on my hands and no money, I played it over and over to absorb the best parts. I remember trading off a bunch of records before heading to college in 1983, and this was one of them. So that would have been the last time for me to hear this album in full (or at all). Despite that, 40 years later I recognized everything on it. Part of my DNA apparently. I would submit that Metal Rendez-Vous is 60% Scorpions and 40% AC/DC. Which in my world means 60% is worth hearing lol. The really great track on here is 'Fire' which sounds more like Uli Roth Scorps than Meine/Schenker. It was one of those songs where I said "I want more of this!". That's how these explorations begin. Nostalgia gives this a +1 and I'm keeping it. I continued on with one more album from Krokus but didn't like it at all. Well, we'll see how that goes today 40+ years later, as I bought the next 3 albums. My recollection is they went full-on AC/DC. They were all $5 so no loss either way.
Ownership: LP: 1980 Ariola (UK). Single sleeve. Recent acquisition from JL (2023). My first copy was the US pressing naturally enough.
1980; 4/3/23 (new entry)
