Cream - Goodbye. 1969 England
Goodbye was Cream's swan song. I hadn't heard this album prior, or at least not in 35 years. Starts off appropriately enough with a quality lengthy jam of 'I'm So Glad' taken from their debut. This is followed by two live renditions of Wheels of Fire cuts. Then we enter the studio portion of the album with the well-known 'Badge'. The latter would be the only acceptable track to 75% of the reviewers out there. But I found 'What a Bringdown' to be an excellent hard rocker, a direction that Cream could have taken forward. Goodbye is generally known as an odds and sods album not worthy of the good Cream name. But truth be told, it's no different in blend than most of their other output. Cream in a live setting is generally known as their best moments, most of it not captured properly until years later.
Former ownership: LP: 1969 ATCO. Thrift shop find from the beginning of the year. Gatefold. One interesting thing about this version: It's the Presswell release, and it has the older purple/brown ATCO label, whereas all the other pressings have the more familiar yellow label. Discogs' pricing doesn't indicate it to be any more collectable, but it's kind of cool all the same.
