"That sounds like ELP, but I don't recognize the music". And you the listener would be correct. Of all the bands from Germany to obtain worldwide recognition in the mid 1970s, Triumvirat would be one of my last guesses - had I not known better. But it does demonstrate just how popular ELP were in their heyday. And Triumvirat's sophomore effort, Illusions on a Double Dimple, is arguably their finest moment. Two sidelong keyboard heavy bangers. What makes Triumvirat special is their ability to write killer breaks utilizing an arsenal of analog keyboards. They also avoid those cringe inducing moments that ELP would often elicit. A very strong album, once you accept the premise that originality is thrown out the window.
