Regresion is one of many albums in the jazz funk field that I had never heard of prior. I first sampled this on YouTube and immediately made the decision to pick up the CD. I fear this will be a common theme as I try to downsize while adding more than I drop. Perhaps a good problem to have.
Regresion starts with the smoking 'Sentimiento' a big band groover with flute and wah wah guitar among the brass sounds. Other tracks remind me of Kraut Fusion with the saxophone in the lead. Like a rawer Kraan maybe. At times it can be a bit percussive (Sanchez is a drummer) as noted on the title track, the album's most experimental number. There are no weak moments to be heard throughout. An excellent album.
The CD adds their 1980 single, which has an exotic disco sound. Reminds me more of what was coming out of Paris in the late 70s than the more overt American variation. Both tracks are very good.
Ownership: CD: 2016 Pharaway. Jewel case with informative booklet containing liner notes with participation of Sanchez. Plus the two aforementioned bonus tracks.
